CaringWorks recognizes that single mothers with children are one of the most vulnerable populations at risk of experiencing homelessness. To address this important issue, we created the M.O.V.E Program (Moving On to Victory and Empowerment) for single mothers facing homelessness and their minor children.
The M.O.V.E Supportive Housing Program enables our clients to achieve a higher level of self-sufficiency for themselves and their families. The program provides case management and supportive services such as life skills and household budgeting training, GED assistance, parenting classes, self-esteem and domestic abuse counseling and wellness education (including nutrition education and personal wellness coaching) for the women, as well as tutoring and early intervention opportunities for the children.
The services of M.O.V.E provide a shelter and facilitate the transition from disadvantaged lifestyles to enhanced living which also strengthens the bond between mothers and their children. Our aim is to break the cycle of homelessness – to work toward the day when our work is no longer needed. When we help our clients in crisis, promote their personal growth and nurture them to become stakeholders invested in where they live, we create stronger, healthier communities for all.
So how can you help? Winter weather seems to be approaching early this year. Because of that, our M.O.V.E clients would appreciate more than ever a warm jacket and other winter apparel. We are collecting new or lightly used jackets, gloves, scarves, hats and sweaters, for children ages 18 months to 18 years and new or gently used warm bedding.
